Two Peas In A Bucket - Gardeners' Digest

Hey everybody!  Welcome to the January edition of the Gardeners' Digest.  The Garderners' Digest is simply a monthly update from the Garden Girls, the design team at Two Peas In A Bucket.  It's a place for us to share what we're currently working on, inspired by, using in our projects, etc.  A little diary of sorts for you to keep up with all of us on our personal blogs as well as over at Two Peas In A Bucket.

First, I want to share with you a little peek of a project in the Garden very soon.  Our next monthly theme in the garden is "Valentines" so I created a layout about my hubby and I using lots of fun new Valentine product from the Two Peas shop.  Here's a peek at my layout ...

Browsing the gallery at Two Peas is one of my favorite things to do when I'm looking for inspiration.  Keeping with the Valentine theme, I spotted these cute coupon envelopes created by Shellye McDaniel.  Aren't they darling?

Next, I'd like to share a few recent purchases I've made from the shop at Two Peas.  There's been lots of new products arriving to the shop at Two Peas and I just couldn't resist buying some new goodies.  So here are some of my most recent purchases ...
  • Mini Paper Clips by Tim Holtz (I am obsessed with these little clips and was so happy to see them back in stock in the shop - best part is they are currently 25% off!)

Garden Girl Julie Campbell has just launched a brand new mini workshop called Journey Into Card Making.  Here's a description of Julie's new class ...

Whether you’re a seasoned card maker or have yet to make your first card, this workshop will take you on a journey to create handmade cards that your friends & loved ones will cherish.

Julie will start out by teaching you card making basics; you will create a card organizer to file away all the new cards you'll be designing! You'll then travel on to gain greater design skills. You’ll dive into design principles and learn how to create an eye pleasing design. You’ll learn all about composition & balance in a way that will take your cards from good to great!

Become adventurous and explore some of the hottest trends in paper crafting! In this workshop, you’ll also learn how to incorporate colors in your projects & how to create cards in several unique styles.

Included in this workshop are over 30 brand-new card samples from Julie and her contributors. The three chapters contain a printable PDF for a total of over 40 pages, and 80 minutes of coordinating video tutorials. Julie’s talented contributors include card makers Laura Bassen & Michelle Wooderson.

At the end of this journey, you’ll find a BONUS chapter filled with souvenirs! Create a trendy card set with the card making kit designed by Marcy Penner of Hello Forever. The kit will be available for download as a PDF and as a cutting file you can use with your Silhouette machine.

The content of this workshop will be available immediately upon purchase. The lessons are available for you to work at your own pace and upon purchase can be accessed in the "Workshops" section under "Classes & Events." A private message board forum is also available to ask questions for Julie and to connect with other participants. Enjoy!

Two Peas In A Bucket - Seeing Double

Recently Two Peas In A Bucket launched a brand new educational program for 2013 that includes videos from the Garden Girls six days a week.  Yep, that's right!  SIX days a week - Monday through Saturday.  I was asked to contribute to the Seeing Double which focuses on creating both a scrapbook layout and a card (or tag, altered project, etc) with the same set of supplies and/or techniques.  I often call myself a card making scrapbooker (or is that scrapbooking card maker? LOL) so this video series is simply perfect for me!

For my first video I chose to focus on using the same set of supplies - the adorable Flashback collection by KI Memories - to create both a layout and a card (seen here at Two Peas In A Bucket).  I am generally a “collection scrapper” - I will often pull out an entire collection of products from a particular manufacturer to use, and then add in bits and pieces from other companies when needed. Scrapping this way just seems natural to me - I'm a wee bit “matchy matchy” so I know the colors will all work together and it saves a ton of time as I don't have to search for other products that match, etc.

I thought the bright colors and fun, quirky patterns of the KI Memories Flashback papers were perfect for a birthday themed layout for my oldest son Darian.  Here are a few detail images of the layout ...

And while all of the supplies I needed were right out on my work table, I created a card as well.  It's a great way to use up those smaller pieces of paper leftover from your layout. You will see in the video that I use similar design elements and principals when creating my card. If something works on a layout, chances are it will work on a card as well (it may just need to be scaled down in size).

You can watch the video on YouTube to see how I created both the layout and the card below ...

PageMaps: NEW Spellbinders Dies by Becky Fleck!

Hi everyone!  I wanted to share some fun new PageMaps Spellbinders dies my amazing friend Becky Fleck is releasing at the CHA Winter show next week.  There will actually be six new sets debuted at the show, but here's a look at two of the sets "Say What?" and "Charmed, I'm Sure."

Aren't these dies just fantastic?  They are a great size for both scrapbookers and card makers.  The possibilities truly are endless.  I played with the "Charmed, I'm Sure" set along with some fun papers by Fancy Pants and created this layout of my sweet nephew Jack.

I used all of the different little charms along the bottom border of my photos hanging from some twin.  They were the perfect spot to add extra stickers and letters for Jack's initials and his date of birth.

To see other projects by a group of amazingly creative designers using both of these new sets head on over to the PageMaps blog today.  And be sure to let Becky know just how much you love them!  ;)

Two Peas In A Bucket - The Good Stuff

Happy 2013!  I hope you all had a great time ringing in the New Year.  We had a fantastic night celebrating with friends, and I'm so looking forward to a new year with lots of exciting adventures ahead.  Today I'm sharing a new layout that just went up in the Garden over at Two Peas In A Bucket this morning.

This layout was a lot of fun to create.  I based it on a sketch from my good friend Becky Fleck (www.pagemaps.com) and used lots of fun new Simple Stories SN@P goodies!   I created several “clothes lines” from which I hung some of my favorite photos from this past year using baker's twine and small wooden clothes pins.  The bright colors of the SN@P goodies were a perfect addition to highlight several of the colors in my photos.

I also used several different stamp sets from Ali Edwards to add months and words to my labels.  I just adore Ali's stamps and the mix between typewritten fonts and her handwriting added lots of fun details to my vignettes.  Plus I stamps some in color and some in black to add an extra little twist as well.

I organize my scrapbook albums by year so this type of layout is the perfect way to "finish off" an album with a little review of some of my favorite photos and moments from the past twelve months.

There are lots of fun announcements over at Two Peas this morning including a new batch of Garden Girls and several new video series.  I will be contributing to a new series called "Seeing Double" in which I will be creating a card AND layout focusing on the same design, product, or technique.  It's the perfect video series for a card making scrapbooker (or is that scrapbooking card maker) like myself.  I hope you'll join me in this new adventure!  Thanks for stopping by!
